SUKKUR: Advocate Umme Rubab Chandio is seeking justice for the murders of her father, uncle and grandfather that occurred in Mehar city over two years ago.
Umme Rubab is pursuing the case of her slain family members herself. She has blamed Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sardar Khan Chandio, Burhan Chandio and seven others for the heinous murders.
Addressing a press conference in Sukkur with a lantern by her side as ray of hope for justice, Chandio leveled allegations against PPP for protecting the killers of her father and other family members.
She accused Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah of providing shelter to the killers and claimed that he was a major hurdle in the way of justice in the murder case.
“PPP leadership and Murad Ali Shah is guarding the killers of my family members. If the chief minister cannot provide justice, he should not become a hurdle in the way of justice,” she added.
Umm-e-Rabab once again demanded the arrest of the murderers of her father and other family members, who she claimed were receiving police protection due to political influence. Chandio said that she might be killed to silence her but will not stop from the quest for justice.
Umme Rubab’s father Mukhtiar Chandio, grandfather Karamullah Chandio and paternal uncle Kabil Chandio were gunned down on January 17, 2018, within the remit of Faridabad police station, Mehar taluka of Dadu district.
The case was highlighted last year when a video of barefoot Umm-e-Rubab walking out from the court went viral on social media. Rubab revealed that the decision was a sign of protest against the justice system which is not deemed fair and impartial in many instances.
Former Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken notice of the incident but the case has not see further progress. Chandio has received immense support on social media with the hashtag #JusticeForUmeRubab becoming the top trend.
