Like many other less literate and especially poverty-stricken societies in the world, people with disabilities are generally not accepted in Pakistani society. Due to the lack of means and management of their treatment, education, technical training and livelihood, disabled people are not given importance even in their homes and families, due to which they remain a burden on society.
Dar-ul-Sukun Karachi is the only proud institution in Pakistan that provides care, upbringing and treatment to such disabled children along with their education in a very quality environment.
This beautiful shelter for disabled children was founded in 1969 by a Dutch nun, Sister Gertrud Leman. On the occasion of her visit to Pakistan, she realized that disabled people are neglected by society here, so her heart was full, so she sacrificed everything and stayed in Pakistan to provide the best service for disabled children and established Dar ul-Sukon.
There are currently more than three hundred disabled children admitted in Dar-ul-Sukun, who are suffering from various rare and severe complex diseases. These children are kept in a wonderful and pampered environment away from home.
The institution provides quality food, various sports and education to the children along with the provision of treatment facilities according to their disease.
The management of the institution said that they do not return any child brought here, new children are admitted here on the first week of every month.
Undoubtedly, comfort is not only a source of comfort and satisfaction for disabled children and their parents, but it is fulfilling a very important duty on the part of the entire society.
