Despite Sindh government’s warning, dairy farmers in Karachi have announced that from October 11, they will begin selling milk at Rs. 300 per liter.
According to details, leaders of the All Karachi Dairy Farmers Association, while addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, said that the failure to issue a notification for new milk prices is unfair.
Nisar Ahmed, a representative of the Dairy Farmers Association, said that due to floods, the cost of animal fodder has skyrocketed, and in various cities, milk is being sold between Rs. 240 and Rs. 270 per liter.
He added that in Karachi, dairy farmers are being forced to sell milk at Rs. 220 per liter at the retail level.
The leaders of the All Karachi Dairy Farmers Association announced that starting October 11, milk will be sold at Rs. 300 per liter.
It is worth noting that just a few days ago, dairy farmers had also threatened to raise milk prices to Rs. 300 per liter from October 11 if the new pricing notification was not issued.
In a recent meeting with Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi—which included dairy farmers, wholesalers, retailers, consumer representatives, and relevant departments—it was decided that new milk prices would be set after quality testing, and a committee was formed for this purpose. This committee includes members from concerned departments and consumer representatives.
The committee has been directed to collect 50 milk samples from various areas of the city, covering farmers, retailers, and wholesalers. The PSQCA will conduct testing on all samples and submit a report within seven days.
However, before the committee has even submitted its report, dairy farmers have announced in today’s press conference that they will raise the price of milk to Rs. 300 per liter from October 11.
