CAIRO — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has told U.S. President Donald Trump that he “deserves the Nobel Peace Prize” for his role in brokering a deal to end the war in Gaza.
According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, Sisi made the remarks during a phone call with Trump, commending his “pivotal contribution” to reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Palestinian factions.
Sisi also invited Trump to attend a celebration in Egypt marking the signing of the first phase of the ceasefire accord. “The president stressed the need to move forward toward implementing the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip in all its stages,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that Trump plans to travel to Egypt next week at Sisi’s invitation.
“The President is really excited to come to Egypt, and that is the plan, that he comes next week,” Witkoff said during a meeting with the Egyptian leader, in a video released by the presidency.
The Egyptian-brokered truce, signed in Cairo, marks the first phase of a broader agreement aimed at halting hostilities and paving the way for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
