KARACHI: Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Sindh police on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended two alleged terrorists involved in attacking Rangers personnel in the Orangi town area of the city.
Senior Superintendent of CTD Arif Aziz said that a raid was conducted after receiving credible information in Karachi’s Saadi Town to arrest two suspects for their alleged involvement in the terror acts.
Arif Aziz further said the arrested terrorists were identified as Mukhtiar and Sadiq, adding that hand grenades were also recovered from their possession.
The terrorists were involved in killing a constable in Kandhkot the police official said, adding they use to get hand grenades from the BLA terrorists for their terror acts. He said that they were also involved in recent grenade attacks carried out by the SRA Asghar Shah Sajjad Shah group. Moreover, this SSP CTD said that both of them were also involved in attacks on Rangers vans and check-posts.
The CTD earlier in the day has also registered a case of an attack on Rangers mobile van in Orangi Town. The case has been filed on the behave of CTD a sub-inspector of Rangers under terrorism, murder and attempt to murder charges.
According to the FIR, the Rangers patrolling van when reached at Orangi Town 5 number check post, a bomb planted in a motorcycle exploded. The explosion damaged the mobile van and injured six persons, read the FIR. Two terrorists could be seen in the CCTV footage,” the FIR said.
According to the investigating officers, the Rangers mobile was targeted when they were going office after completing its picket duty. The record of the motorcycle used in the blast is clear. The officials said the motorcycle was registered in the name of a resident of Mujahid Colony.
Karachi police have also decided to dismiss the officer who did not register a case of motorcycle theft. Additional IG Ghulam Nabi Memon said, “We have issued a show-cause note to duty officer ASI Roman”.
On Monday, one Rangers official was martyred while eight others sustained injuries when a blast took place near the city’s Orangi Town number 5 area.
According to police, the blast took place near a Rangers vehicle that parked in the Mominabad area of Karachi’s Orangi Town. The Sindh Rangers personnel were busy snap-checking at the Mominabad neighbourhood when they were attacked with a cracker.
Rescue officials have informed that eight people, including two Rangers officials, are injured. The injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Rangers and police personnel have arrived at the site of the blast and cordoned off the area.
Eyewitnesses have informed that the intensity of the blast was so severe that people standing near the area were thrown to the ground due to the impact.
