KARACHI: Pakistan captain Babar Azam has opened up after his first win as Test captain, which came against South Africa at National Stadium Karachi on Friday.
“Credit goes to the entire team. The wicket was slow, and we had planned to bat first. Unfortunately, we had to bowl first, we had to switch plans,” said Azam during the post-match presentation.
The right-hand batsman further said, “At the toss I had said, partnerships will be key and then after Fawad and Azhar put on from 36/4, they showed their experience. It gave us a boost.”
“Fawad’s outstanding performance was good. After that Nauman and Yasir were outstanding. Fast bowlers contributed too, and it’s a combination of everything that helped us win,” he added.
Later, addressing a virtual press conference, Babar Azam said that he wants the team to achieve victories in away tours, adding that players should perform the way they did on home soil.
“As a captain I want this team to be as good in away series as it is in home series. If you’ll be able to do well in away tours and start winning outside your home, then you’ll automatically get the confidence,” he added.
Replying to a question, Babar Azam said that the condition in Rawalpindi will be different from what it was in Karachi and a final XI will be decided once the team reaches there. “Pakistan will continue its streak in the second Test and improve its ranking,” he concluded.
