Crackdown against smuggled goods to begin soon: FBR

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to begin a crackdown against smuggled goods in local markets.
To check the smuggling of goods, the FBR has coordinated to establish groups including authorities from Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation and Inland Revenue.
These teams will scrutinize export goods at shopping plazas and local markets, shops of electronics in Saddar area of Karachi would be the main target to initiate the crackdown with as it is said to be the largest market of electronic goods.
In the case of documents’ unavailability, the shopkeeper will be given a specific time to give their response on the matter.
Collective groups of individuals from Customs offices will administer the procedure, according to FBR’s guidelines.
Last week, an elderly man who owns several shops of electronics in Saddar was arrested in the same smuggling of goods case.
