KARACHI: The confirmed cases of coronavirus in Pakistan have surged past 26,900 as the country prepares to ease the lockdown.
According to the provided details by the provincial health departments, almost 1,958 cases were reported across the country, taking the national tally to 26,957.
Punjab Health Department informed that almost 838 new coronavirus cases were reported across the province. After which the confirmed virus cases in Punjab rose to 10,033.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has informed that almost 598 new cases were reported across the province today (Friday). The new cases have taken the provincial tally to 9,691.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department reported 371 new cases of coronavirus across the province in the last 24 hours, bringing the provincial tally to 4,327.
According to the provincial health department, another 151 coronavirus cases have been reported in Balochistan.
The provincial governments today (Friday) have announced the partial easing of lockdown measures, even as the number of infections in the country registered a record daily increase.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the lifting of the countrywide lockdown in phases from Saturday. PM Imran had acknowledged that the lockdown was being eased at a time when our curve was going up but maintained that it was not edging up as we were expecting.
