ISLAMABAD: Acting President Sadiq Sajrani has promulgated an ordinance to increase the salaries of the Chief Justice of Pakistan and other judges of the Supreme Court.
The president issued the “Salary of Judges of the Supreme Court Order, 2023” to increased the salary of the Chief Justice of Pakistan to Rs1,229,189 per month. Moreover, the salary of other judges of the Supreme Court will be Rs1,161,163 per month.
Furthermore, it stated that the order would come into effect immediately, while the previous order regarding the salaries of judges has been repealed.
The ‘Salary of Judges of the Supreme Court Order, 2022 has been repealed. The salary of the CJP was earlier Rs1,024,324, while other judges were paid Rs9,67,636 per month.
Earlier, it was reported that Supreme Court judges earn more than the president, the prime minister, ministers, federal secretaries and parliamentarians. This was based on the data submitted to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly in May this year.
PAC Chairman Noor Alam Khan had asked the auditor general to present a comparative observation report on the salaries and privileges received by the president, prime minister, federal ministers, members of the parliament, and the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The list based on the previous salaries of the Supreme Court judges showed that the Chief Justice receives the highest salary, followed by Supreme Court judges, and the president. while the prime minister is getting a salary even less than ministers and federal secretaries.
PAC Chairman Noor Alam Khan told members that the president’s salary was Rs896,550, the prime minister’s Rs201,574, and the federal ministers’ Rs 338,125. He shared that a parliamentarian’s salary is Rs188,000, while a grade-22 officer gets Rs591,475 a month.
