GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Court disqualified Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan from office for allegedly submitting a fake degree.
The order was passed by a three-member bench comprising Justice Malik inayat-ur-Rehman, Justice Jauhar Ali, and Justice Muhammad Mushtaq on a petition seeking the chief minister’s disqualification.
GB Assembly member Ghulam Shahzad Agha, who belongs to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), had challenged Khurshid’s law degree and sought his disqualification under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
The chief minister’s lawyer, Asadullah Khan, argued that the articles do not apply to Gilgit Baltistan. The complainant’s counsel informed the court that they applied to the region. The court eventually issued its judgment and disqualified the chief minister. .
Khalid Khurshid Khan belonged to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He was elected as Chief Minister of Gigit-Baltistan on 30 November 2020.
