A tragic shooting in the Chakwal district of Punjab has claimed the life of a nine-year-old Australian-Pakistani girl, identified as Hania Adeel, during a violent incident involving armed robbers and police intervention.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred when a Pakistani-Australian family was returning to a relative’s residence after travelling from abroad. The family was reportedly confronted by armed men on a motorcycle who robbed them of cash and valuables at gunpoint.
Shortly afterwards, personnel from the Crime Control Department (CCD) arrived at the scene. In the ensuing confusion and exchange of fire with the suspects, police allegedly mistook the family’s vehicle for that of the fleeing robbers and opened fire.
As a result of the gunfire, the young girl sustained multiple bullet injuries and was critically wounded. She was rushed to hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Her father and brother were also injured in the incident and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Authorities have confirmed that an officer involved in the firing has been taken into custody, while a formal investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances leading to the fatal shooting and alleged misidentification.
The incident has triggered widespread public concern over police response protocols and the use of force during emergency operations. Officials have assured a transparent inquiry and pledged accountability if negligence or procedural violations are proven.
