Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Makhdoom Basit Sultan Bukhari took oaths from his supporters on the Holy Quran to swear allegiance to him ahead of the general elections.
In a video that has now gone viral on social media, Bukhari could be seen sitting with his supporters who swore their allegiance to him.
Bukhari — who joined the Shehbaz Sharif-led party after quitting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) — is a candidate from multiple constituencies in Muzaffargarh — two federal constituencies NA-176 and NA-177; and two provincial constituencies PP-272 and PP-273.
The PML-N leader said his opponents were doing propaganda about his political strength and hence, the supporters swore that the “evil” elements who were propagating against them were not true.
The oath wording said that every decision made by Bukhari would be followed. Bukhari also claimed that the oath was taken on the wish of the former chairman.
The purpose of the oath was to give an effective response to the propaganda of the opponents, he added.
Pakistan is set to hold general elections on February 8 next year with major political parties eyeing to form government in the centre.
