The renewed push was fueled by backlash over a canceled Netflix animated series and social media comments by its creator, Hamish Steele.

The campaign led to Netflix’s stock closing lower and contributed to a worldwide spike in “cancel Netflix” search queries.

Musk’s involvement began after right-wing social media accounts, including Libs of TikTok, amplified clips from the show Dead End: Paranormal Park.

Meet Hamish Steele, creator of a kid’s show on @netflix which teaches kids they can be transgender.

After Charlie was ass*ssinated, he called Charlie a nazi and had a meltdown because people were mourning him.

Netflix is SILENT. Their silence is deafening.

The posts claimed the series, which ran from 2022 to 2023, was “pushing pro-transgender” themes on children. Musk shared these posts, writing, “This is not ok” and later added, “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids”.

The controversy was further amplified by resurfaced social media comments allegedly made by Steele, the creator of the series, regarding the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Some of Musk’s followers accused Steele of mocking Kirk’s death, which Steele has denied.

Musk also used the moment to criticize Netflix’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. In amplified posts, he echoed claims that Netflix was discriminating against white people based on its 2023 diversity report.

In the wake of Musk’s calls, #CancelNetflix began trending on X, with users sharing screenshots of their canceled subscriptions.

What Pakistanis think? #CancelNetflix

Because the latest controversy originated in the US, its relevance to Pakistani users may be limited. While some may join the boycott for ideological reasons, others might not be aware of or concerned with the specific US-based issues surrounding the animated show Dead End: Paranormal Park
