SARGODHA: A man killed his sister for ‘honour’ after she married for the sixth time in Sargodha.
Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested the man over the killing of the woman after her sixth husband Waseem Amjad lodged a First Information Report (FIR).
During an investigation into the murder of 32-year-old Nighat Parveen, police apprehended 22-year-old accused Abdullah Hashim after tracing call record data of the deceased mobile phone.
During the initial investigation, the accused confessed to killing his sister, adding that she had become “a source of shame” for his family for the past eight years.
Hashim further told police that he killed his sister in name of honour and has no regret. He added that people in the village had also started questioning the family’s honour due to Parveen’s “character”.
Police recovered the body of the deceased from a room and registered a case against the accused. He will be presented before the court for judicial remand, police said.
Police say Hashim confessed that when Parveen returned to her parents’ home after tying the knot for the sixth time, he shut her inside a room and shot her to death.
According to police, the victim’s brother has been arrested and the weapon used to commit the crime has also been recovered.
Earlier, a woman was allegedly killed by her father and brother in the name of ‘honour’ in Sheikhupura. According to police, the woman had married a man of her choice against the consent of her family.
