LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds have been blessed with a son.
The announcement was made by the couple. According to the Prime Minister’s spokesperson, both mother and baby are doing very well.
The 55-year-old premier, who has recently recovered from COVID-19, was present at the NHS hospital in London throughout the birth. The 33-year-old Miss Symonds also suffered symptoms of the disease.
The statement from the spokeswoman added, “The premier and Miss Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.” The couple announced in March that they were expecting a baby in early summer.
The father of Boris Johnson has also congratulated the couple and said that he was absolutely delighted and thrilled to have heard the news. Earlier on 7th April, Johnson was shifted to intensive care in a hospital after his COVID-19 symptoms worsened.
“On the advice of his medical team, the PM will not be immediately returning to work,” he added. Earlier, Johnson had announced that he tested positive for the novel COVID-19 on 27th March. He said he was experiencing mild symptoms and would continue leading the country — while self-isolating in his apartment in Downing Street.
The 55-year-old was taken to St. Thomas’ Hospital in London 10 days later. On Saturday, the PM issued a statement thanking the National Health Service staff at St. Thomas’ Hospital. “I ca not thank them enough. I owe them my life,” he said.
