SAHIWAL: A peculiar case of robbery unfolded in Sahiwal, Punjab, where robbers targeted brides at a beauty parlor.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred in the Farid Town area of Sahiwal. The culprits, disguised as women, entered the parlor and robbed four brides who were there for makeup. These thieves made off with 18 tolas of gold and mobile phones, amounting to approximately Rs 50 lakhs. Following the robbery, they fled the scene brandishing weapons.
This brazen act highlights the alarming rise in crime nationwide. It’s becoming increasingly evident that no corner of the country is immune to such incidents, shattering the illusion of serene and peaceful communities.
There’s a prevailing belief that law enforcement, instead of addressing the root causes, resorts to questionable tactics like underreporting crimes. It’s estimated that only a fraction of crimes, ranging from thefts to serious offenses like rape and molestation, are officially recorded, with police acknowledging a mere 10 to 20 percent registration rate for FIRs (First Information Reports).
Statistics from the Punjab Police reveal a significant spike in reported crimes, with figures escalating from 759,816 in 2022 to 1,063,518 in 2023, marking a staggering 28.56% increase.
