Azam Khan, a middle-order batter for Karachi Whites, was fined 50% of his match fees during the National T20 tournament in Karachi for violating clothing and equipment regulations.
He displayed Palestine’s flag on his bat, which was deemed unapproved political messaging.
The match referee had previously warned him, citing a breach of the ICC code of conduct.
Despite Azam’s claim that all his bats had the same stickers, he was fined.
This incident follows a similar one in the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup, where Pakistan’s team expressed solidarity with Palestine. The PCB defended the players’ actions as a personal decision.
Despite the umpire’s disapproval, Azam refused to remove the sticker of the Palestinian flag which resulted in the penalty.
Moreover, Azam has been warned for future matches. If he puts a sticker in the next match, he can be suspended.
