After a disappointing title defense at the Commonwealth Games, Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has been included in the entry list for the men’s javelin throw at the Lausanne Diamond League, set to take place on August 21.
According to the entry list released by the organisers, Nadeem will compete against a star-studded field, including Indian rival Neeraj Chopra, two-time world champion Anderson Peters, and newly crowned Commonwealth Games champion and world leader Rumesh Pathirage.
The competition will also feature Germany’s Thomas Röhler and Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott, making this year’s Lausanne Diamond League one of the strongest javelin contests of the season.
Nadeem heads into the event looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where he failed to defend his title and finished ninth in the 12-man final.
The 29-year-old, who won Commonwealth gold in 2022 with a record throw of 90.18 meters, opened his title defense with a foul before registering a best effort of 77.41 meters in his second attempt.
Needing a stronger third throw to stay in medal contention, Nadeem managed only 75.39 meters, leaving him in ninth place and ending his campaign before the final rounds.
