Apple’s iOS 27 to bring sweeping AI overhaul

Apple is gearing up to unveil iOS 27 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, scheduled to kick off on June 8, with a full public rollout anticipated in September alongside new hardware.

Early leaks and insider reports suggest the update will mark one of the most significant artificial intelligence-driven transformations in the iPhone’s history — prioritizing practical, real-world utility over novelty.

A New Face for Siri:  Perhaps the most talked-about change heading into WWDC 2026 is a comprehensive redesign of Siri, Apple’s long-standing virtual assistant. Apple’s official WWDC teaser logo has already sparked speculation, featuring a glowing, overexposed “halation” effect around the “26” numeral — widely interpreted as a visual nod to Siri’s forthcoming aesthetic overhaul.

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who has a strong track record of accurate Apple leaks, the redesigned Siri will move away from its iconic orb interface. In its place, users can expect a Dynamic Island-integrated experience, complete with a “Search or Ask” prompt and a luminous, animated cursor. The revamped assistant is currently reported to be in active internal testing at Apple.

Additionally, a chatbot-style conversational upgrade to Siri is rumored to be among the headline announcements at WWDC, signaling Apple’s intent to compete more aggressively in the rapidly evolving AI assistant landscape.

Visual Intelligence Gets a Major Expansion: iOS 27 is also set to dramatically broaden the capabilities of Visual Intelligence — Apple’s camera-powered AI feature — extending its reach into everyday scenarios with a suite of practical new tools.

Key upgrades reportedly include:

– Nutrition Label Scanning: Users will be able to point their iPhone camera at food packaging to instantly scan nutrition labels, with data feeding directly into the Health app for detailed dietary insights and tracking.
– Smart Contact Saving: Printed phone numbers and physical addresses can be captured via the camera and automatically saved to Contacts, eliminating the need for manual data entry.
– Digital Wallet Pass Creation: Scanning physical tickets, loyalty cards, or gym membership cards will allow users to instantly generate digital Wallet passes, streamlining everyday carry.

These features, reportedly discovered within Apple’s backend code, are also expected to integrate seamlessly with Apple’s broader AI-powered wearables ecosystem, including the company’s anticipated smart glasses — underscoring a unified, cross-device intelligence strategy.

Safari and Beyond: Apple’s native browser, Safari, is also in line for an AI-driven enhancement. iOS 27 is expected to introduce the ability to automatically name Tab Groups based on the content of open pages — a quality-of-life improvement aimed at users who manage multiple browsing sessions simultaneously.

The Bigger Picture: Taken together, the anticipated features of iOS 27 paint a clear picture of Apple’s AI philosophy: intelligence that serves real-world tasks, rather than AI for its own sake. From scanning a cereal box to decluttering a browser session, the focus appears firmly on making the iPhone a more intuitive, capable companion in daily life.

While Apple has yet to officially confirm any of these details ahead of WWDC 2026, the convergence of credible leaks, backend code discoveries, and subtle marketing hints suggests the company is prepared to make a bold statement about the future of mobile AI.
