Apple has officially released its iOS 26.5 operating system update for iPhone 11 and newer models, introducing major security improvements along with new features for messaging, maps, and device connectivity.
The company said users can download the update by going to Settings, then General, and selecting Software Update.
A key highlight of the update is the introduction of encrypted messaging between iPhone and Android users.
The feature enables high-quality media sharing, read receipts, and typing indicators across both platforms.
Apple said the system uses end-to-end encryption, indicated by a lock icon in chats, to ensure privacy and security.
However, the feature is currently in beta, and its availability depends on mobile network operators.
The update also brings significant changes to Apple Maps, including the introduction of advertisements for the first time.
Businesses will now be able to pay for better visibility in search results within the maps application.
In addition, a new feature called “Suggested Places” has been added, offering users recommendations for nearby restaurants and tourist locations based on their surroundings.
iOS 26.5 also improves hardware connectivity, allowing users to directly connect accessories such as the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse to iPhones via USB-C, with automatic pairing support.
