Another distressing video featuring Maryam, a victim of police violence aboard the Millat Express, has surfaced online. In this latest footage, Maryam, accompanied by her children, can be heard amidst commotion, with a visual showing her raising her hand in distress.
Maryam Bibi, a beautician from Karachi, embarked on a journey to spend the Eid holiday with her family in Jaranwala, Punjab, via the Millat Express on April 7. Tragically, during her travel, she encountered brutality at the hands of Constable Mir Hasan near Hyderabad, as depicted in a video capturing the incident and subsequent media reports. Two days following the ordeal, Maryam’s lifeless body was discovered near the Chani Goth railway station in Punjab.
The victim’s brother alleges that the officer subjected his sister to torture, ultimately leading to her demise, and then callously disposed of her body along a railway track. Initially, Maryam’s family believed her death to be the result of a train accident, but the emergence of the torture video prompted railway authorities to establish a fact-finding committee to probe the circumstances of her death.
Maryam’s postmortem report suggests her demise was deemed ‘accidental,’ citing broken bones and severe bleeding, with five injury marks identified on her body. Subsequently, the committee’s investigation concluded that Constable Mir Hasan was indeed present in Hyderabad at the time of the incident and was not implicated in Maryam’s murder, as stated by Pakistan Railways spokesperson Babar Raza.
