Religious speaker and YouTuber Allama Nasir Madani has publicly apologized to actress Momina Iqbal after his alleged remarks sparked controversy and prompted the actress to initiate legal proceedings, seeking an unconditional apology and the removal of the disputed content.
It is worth mentioning that in the widely circulated video, the scholar allegedly referred to the actress as “satanic” and “avaricious”, while claiming that she had received various financial benefits before making harassment allegations against Punjab MPA Saqib Chadhar.
Addressing a public gathering, Madani said that if any of his statements had hurt Momina Iqbal or her family, he sincerely apologised.
He maintained that he had no intention of causing personal offence and expressed hope that the issue could be resolved amicably. He also appealed to Momina Iqbal’s sister, who is a lawyer, to help facilitate a peaceful settlement.
The apology comes after Momina Iqbal served a legal notice on June 17 through her counsel, Advocate Adnan Ehsan Khan, under Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance, 2002.
The notice alleged that remarks made about the actress were false, defamatory, and had damaged her personal and professional reputation.
It further warned that failure to comply would result in legal proceedings under the Defamation Ordinance, 2002, and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
