After a four-day closure, authorities reopened key motorways and highways across Punjab on Wednesday, bringing relief to commuters who had faced disruptions due to the ongoing security measures.
According to a spokesperson from the Motorway Police, the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2), Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (M11), Motorway M-4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem, M-14 connecting Hakla and Dera Ismail Khan, and M-3 are all now fully operational and open to traffic.
With the reopening of the motorways, a large influx of vehicles was observed on the roads. Several goods trucks that had been stranded due to the closures were also seen making their way to their destinations.
Additionally, the Eastern Bypass and Lahore Ring Road have been restored, ensuring smooth traffic flow for commuters. Lahore’s traffic police confirmed that the city’s entry and exit points, including Thokar Niaz Baig and Shahdara, are functioning without disruptions.
In Rawalpindi, traffic on Murree Road and connecting routes is operating normally, though some areas near Faizabad continue to face security concerns. In Islamabad, the Kashmir Highway and surrounding roads have also been cleared, with authorities working to remove any remaining obstacles.
The closures of these motorways and bus stand over the past four days had left many travelers stranded, and concerns about potential fuel shortages had also emerged due to the lockdown-like situation in major Punjab cities and Islamabad.
