Ali Sethi and Shae Gill’s song ‘Pasoori’ which got international fame, has now made it to the global top music video chart on YouTube.
Coke Studio’s Producer Zulfiqar J Khan too to Instagram and shared this achievement, “We just entered the Youtube Global Top Music Video charts. We were wanting/rooting for this. But didn’t know it would happen. But it did. It did today after almost 10 months of the song’s release.”

Since its first release in February 2022, Pasoori has been seeing record-breaking numbers on numerous social and streaming platforms, in addition to countless renditions and reel recreations around the world.
In Google’s ‘Hum to Search’ category, ‘Pasoori’ became the most hummed song in the list of 5, for the ongoing year. It became a become a global hit in March by ranking no 3 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 list.
Back in May, The New Yorker praised Ali Sethi in their article and described ‘Pasoori’ a Punjabi word that translates roughly to ‘difficult mess’, is about an age-old situation: two people who are forbidden from meeting each other.
As per the news article, ‘Pasoori’ is apparently about star-crossed lovers, but it’s also an apt metaphor for the relationship between two countries in an endless conflict whose histories and cultural touchstones are entwined.
