Ali Kazmi’s ‘Funny Boy’ among films eligible for Oscar nomination

Actor Ali Kazmi has expressed excitement as his movie ‘Funny boy’ has been declared eligible for nominations at the Oscars 2021.

Taking to Twitter, Ali Kazmi expressed gratefulness for the Oscar academy for its recognition.

“What a list to be included in #funnyboy what a journey it has been! Eternal Thank you to the amazing creative forces, the super cast and crew behind it and thank you to The Academy for the recognition! Best of luck to all !”, he wrote.

Kazmi’s movie ‘Funny boy’ has been nominated for Oscars 2021. His movie was released in December 2020. Canada also nominated the film for the ‘Best International Film‘ category.

Directed by Indo-Canadian filmmaker Deepa Mehta, the movie includes Kazmi who essays a pivotal role in the movie. The rest of the Funny Boy cast includes Nimmi Harasgama, Agam Darshi, Seema Biswas, Rehan Mudannayake, and Shivantha Wijesinha. The film is based on a book by the same title, written by Shyam Selvadurai.

‘Funny Boy’ involves Tamil protagonist Arjie,  played by Arush Nand, sexual awakening from a young boy, considered funny by disapproving family, to a teenager enamored by a male classmate, just as political tensions escalate, leading up to the civil war.
