At the University of Louisville in the United States, Computer Science Professor Roman Yampolski has predicted that Artificial Intelligence (AI) could make 99 percent of workers unemployed by the year 2030.
This warning for workers has come at a time when companies around the world are increasingly relying on AI systems to reduce costs and increase revenue, according to the report.
According to Professor Yampolski, who is considered a prominent voice regarding AI safety, even coders and prompt engineers will not remain safe from the coming wave of automation that could take away almost all jobs.
The professor said, “We are looking at a world with an unemployment level we have never seen before. We are not talking about 10 percent unemployment, which is terrifying, this is now about 99 percent.” Professor Yampolski said on The Diary of a CEO podcast that human-like intelligence or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will likely become common by 2027.
Three years after the arrival of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), the labor market will collapse because AI tools and humanoid robots will make hiring humans unprofitable, according to the professor.
The professor stated, “If I can get done whatever an employee does by just getting a $20 subscription or a free model, then you know what’s going to happen. First, everything on the computer will be automated. And after that, I think humanoid robots are perhaps five years behind. So five years later, when they also become automated, then all physical labor will also be taken over by them.”
Professor Yampolski said that employment provides income, structure, status, and community. However, if jobs disappear, societies will need to build all four on a large scale. “Most of these people are unaware that this is going to happen. They think it’s madness, and people do not believe it.” He added.
