Afghan govt appreciates Pakistan’s support for peace

ISLAMABAD: Afghan Acting Foreign Minister Mohammed Haneef Atmar has appreciated Pakistan’s support for lasting peace in Afghanistan.

In a tweet, the Afghan leader said that he fully shares the view of Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the Foreign Office of Pakistan that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan will bring new opportunities for progress and prosperity of not only Afghanistan but also the region.

The first every intra-Afghan negotiations are underway in Doha where the Afghan government has called for a humanitarian ceasefire with the Taliban.

The head of Afghanistan’s peace council Abdullah Abdullah stressed that there is no winner through war. Taliban leader Mullah Baradar Akhund expressed hope that negotiations would move forward with patience.

Both sides said the first discussions on procedural issues have gone much better than expected, but on many other questions there are deep differences-the timing of a ceasefire, the political system and the extent of personal freedoms.

Prime Minister Imran Khan haid hailed the commencement of the talks and said the successful culmination of the Afghan peace and reconciliation process was indispensable for regional peace.

The Prime Minister reiterated the determination that Pakistan will continue to remain in full support and solidarity with the Afghan people as they march forward in this consequential journey for peace and development.
