KARACHI: Despite tight security arrangements and warnings from the authorities over heavy firing on New Year’s Eve, one person has been killed and 17 others were injured by indiscriminate firing.
Although authorities warned of attempted murder cases against violators, Karachi was hit by gunfire and fireworks on Friday night, but this time the death toll was higher than last year.
According to police, 18 people were injured in the incident and one of them died in Khwaja Ajmer Nagar while undergoing treatment.
Six people were shifted to Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Center, Korangi, four to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, three to Civil Hospital, and two injured to Sindh Government Hospital.

Iqra, a 10-year-old girl, was injured in a blind shooting near Kohistan Chowk in North Nazimabad. Harris, 14, was shot near Ghas Mandi in Napier. A bullet also hit the car of Muhammad Rizwan, president of the Electronic Market Association, but he escaped unhurt.
There were crowds of people celebrating the New Year at various places across the city to celebrate the New Year. Police and Rangers were seen patrolling and monitoring the roads in an attempt to avoid any major untoward incident. According to the police, cases have been registered on the complaints of aerial firing.
