Senator Faisal Vawda has claimed that former ISI Director General Lt. Gen. (retd) Faiz Hameed could face at least 14 years in prison, asserting that accountability for the May 9 riots is inevitable.
Speaking on Nadeem Malik Live on Samaa TV, Vawda said those involved in the violence are still “in hiding” and insisted that the PTI founder will also receive punishment in the case, calling it “a writing on the wall.”
Vawda argued that Faiz Hameed “did not fall from the sky” and must be held answerable just like others. He further alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi would fail to meet the PTI founder on Thursday, claiming Afridi’s disqualification and the imposition of governor’s rule are now foreseeable developments.
The senator said he personally helped arrange the PTI founder’s recent meeting with his sisters and had advised exposing alleged corruption linked to Farah Gogi and others. He stressed that the Constitution guarantees all prisoners the right to meet their families and legal teams.
Vawda added that he had always insisted political conflicts be handled politically and that a firm red line must be upheld regarding respect for the Pakistan Army.
According to him, he had repeatedly warned the PTI founder that “his own people would eventually turn against him.”
He also dismissed the PTI’s narrative about the founder’s health, saying the issue could have been settled after the sisters’ visit but instead escalated unnecessarily.
Touching on administrative matters, Vawda said the notification for the Chief of Defence Forces would be issued routinely once formalities under the Rules of Business were completed.
On judicial concerns, he remarked that issues arising after recent judicial amendments would be addressed through further constitutional changes, noting that “after the 28th Amendment, the 29th will follow.”
Reaffirming his stance, Vawda maintained that the masterminds of the May 9 unrest are still concealing themselves and reiterated his prediction: “If not the death penalty, then General Faiz should certainly get at least 14 years of imprisonment.”
