Here is the list of Pakistani celebrities who have uttered some shocking statements on record, whether intentional or unintentional but such words were enough to grab people’s attention. Let’s have a look:
1) Maria B
Maria who is Pakistan’s renowned fashion designer leaves no chance to be in a headline for their controversial or poor choice of words. She made a transphobic comment and shared her two cents on who qualifies as transgender.
The designer revealed that she does not want people like Moiz Awan to serve as role models for their kids. Moiz, who is a transgender rights activist, was invited as a speaker at the TEDx ISL where Maria’s children study.
Becoming an advocate for the transgender community, Maria B stated that Awan is not a part of the community and instead, ‘a man transitioning into a woman’ hence, her kids need to know the difference between genderless and trans individuals.
2) Hira Mani
Previously famous for her ‘Mard Bari Pyari Cheez Hai’, this year too Hira Mani managed to stay in the limelight due to another controversial statement she made on the Dua Zehra case.
Her insensitive comment in which she prayed that Dua Zehra (the minor girl who was kidnapped) and Zaheer (the boy who kidnapped Zehra) remain together for eternity.
She shocked the public, however, Hira apologized later and said that she did not know what the case was because she was ‘on vacation’. This is not the first time Hira made a problematic statement and might not be the last time as well.
3) Khalil ur Rehman Qamar
Controversial writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar is called controversial for a reason. In a podcast, while discussing ‘Mahira Khan’s viral tweets against Qamar, he admitted he still harbours negative feelings for the actress.
He said, “I will eventually forgive Mahira for working on a project based on my life. I have nothing but respect for her, yet she committed a mistake during the infamous Marvi incident. She tweeted in her favour and openly opposed my views.”
The feud between Qamar and Marvi Samad in 2020 was not something new. Khalil-ur-Rehman has said offensive things several times which offended women on a larger scale.
4) Ushna Shah
We all know Ushna Shah cares a lot about animals and is a very prominent animal rights activist in Pakistan but this does not give her right to post a classist comment. Ushna Shah made life hell for a food delivery driver late at night. Her insensitivity caused a lot of backlash for her.
5) Sadaf Kanwal
Sadaf Kanwal’s ‘our husband is our culture’ was still one of the most controversial statements one could utter and she is back again this year.
Her video went viral in which Sadaf Kanwal said that only husbands are supposed to give their partners gifts and should not expect presents in return.
6) Behroze Sabzwari
Sadaf Kanwal’s Behroze Sabzwari also decided to join his daughter on law the bandwagon of making controversial statements.
In an interview, Sabzwari pointed out the dress of women in the showbiz industry and said that being actors it is the responsibility of women to dress decently and properly.
Sabzwari also talked about the dresses of women in general and advised them to cover themselves and wear proper clothes to avoid grabbing the attention of men.
