ISLAMABAD: Pakistan set a new record of most vaccinations in a day on Saturday after nearly 400,000 people received COVID-19 jabs.

This was stated by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, who hold National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) overseeing the efforts against the coronavirus.

In a statement on Twitter, Asad Umar said that over 383,000 people received COVID jabs on Saturday, setting a new record of most vaccinations in a day.

“So far seven million people have been vaccinated in the country,” he said, adding that the number of people getting registered for the vaccination is also increasing day by day. He said that so far 11.6 million people have registered themselves to receive COVID jabs.

According to NCOC, more than 6.130 million does have been administered so far. More than 1.513 million have been full vaccinated, while 3.180 have received partial doses

The increase in number of people getting vaccinated has been witnessed after the NCOC allowed walk-in vaccination for citizens above 30 years of age.

“In the NCOC meeting today it was decided to open up walk-in vaccination for 30 plus from tomorrow,” Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar had said. He urged citizens aged above thirty to visit a vaccination centre and get themselves vaccinated.

The government has also started registering citizens aged 19 and above for vaccination against COVID-19. People aged between 19 to 30 years can register themselves by sending their CNIC number to 1166.

The government decided to open vaccine registration for all people having Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) which is approved by health experts for COVID-19 vaccination.

Earlier, the NCOC had decided to begin registering people between the 30 and 40-year age bracket for Covid-19 vaccines after Eid-ul-Fitr.

At the time, Asad Umar had said that due to availability of sufficient doses, it had been decided to expand the vaccine outreach to other age groups.

“By the end of the current month, production of the vaccine will also start at the National Institute of Health. Moreover, we will get millions of doses under Covax in the coming months,” he had added.
