Karachi’s development amid political turmoil

In Pakistan, political turmoil, a second wave of coronavirus, and the government’s vengeful sentiments are on the rise currently. The bitter statements of the government spokespersons and the response of the opposition continue but no one is ready to give priority to the development of the country.

The government has rightly decided to ban public gatherings amid the second oppressive wave of COVID-19, but the PDM has put the people of Pakistan in trouble by adopting a policy of bigotry.

The Mengal group, a former federal ally, has joined the Pakistan Democratic Movement. If the PML-Q and the MQM go on a rampage, the chances of the government to go home will increase.

The PTI delegation should have gone on the demise of Nawaz Sharif’s mother but after the statements from Shibli Faraz, Shahbaz Gul, Fayyaz Chauhan and Firdous Ashiq Awan it is not possible that reconciliation could be done.

The people of Pakistan are fed up with the government’s statement that it will not issue NROs. Blaming previous governments for everything is also no longer important to the people. They want a reduction in inflation and relief from Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Turning to the politics of Karachi and Sindh, the journey of Karachi’s development is limited to meetings and announcements. The changing language of MQM in Sindh, the statement of Mustafa Kamal not to take charity on the permanent package, the statements of Dr. Saleem Haider and Afaq Ahmed, the statement of Mohajir Grand Alliance, there may be a rocket science behind it.

Tensions are also rising in Sindh’s urban areas, but the federal and provincial governments do not seem serious at all. Karachi’s local bodies are in a state of turmoil, but even there, stakeholders are reluctant to speak out. Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) is speaking openly on Karachi issues but its silence on issues of KMC and local bodies is also surprising.

It is the third month that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has not yet paid salaries to the employees of all the departments except a few. On the other hand, unique incidents are taking place. A COVID-19 infect KMC staffer hugged and kissed a senior officer for holding his salary.

Administrator Karachi was also not given ADP funds. A major challenge for the MQM in Sindh’s urban areas is that neither the 162 billion package nor the 1100 billion package has been implemented, nor does Hyderabad University has established yet. KMC’s recovery departments are not functioning due to which there are no outcome resources.

Not a single authority has taken any measures to tackle the deteriorating situation of KMC and Karachi. Some suggestions were presented by the Karachi Image Restoration Committee, which should be implanted as soon as possible. The administrator should play a role in implementing it and providing resources, which can benefit both the civic entity and the city of lights.
