KARACHI: Funeral prayers of renowned religious scholar Maulana Adil, who was assassinated by unidentified armed men, have been offered in Jamia Farooqia in Karachi on Sunday.
According to details, the funeral prayers of Maulana Adil Khan, the superintendent of Farooqia University, and his driver Maqsood were killed in an armed attack in Karachi last night, were offered.
Maulana Adil’s elder brother Maulana Ubaidullah led the prayers that were attended by renowned religious scholars, Mufti Taqi Usmani, Aurangzeb Farooqi, political party leaders, local elders and a large number of people.
It may be recalled that Maulana Adil is the superintendent of Jamia Farooqia and son of the late Maulana Saleemullah Khan and Jamia Farooqia is located in Shah Faisal Colony No. 4.
On Saturday night, a firing incident took place in the Shah Faisal Colony area of Karachi in which the superintendent of Farooqia University had been martyred.
In this regard, the police said that Maulana Adil Khan’s car was fired upon on his way back from Darul Uloom Karachi while the attackers opened fire on the double cabin vehicle.
Police said that the injured were shifted to Military Foundation Hospital in Shah Faisal while his driver Maqsoor died during undergoing treatment and Maulana Adil Liaquat succumbed to his injuries on the way to Liaquat National Hospital.
The spokesman of Liaquat National Hospital Dr. Anjum Rizvi said that Maulana Adil Khan was shot twice while Maulana Adil Khan had died before reaching the hospital.
In a message on a social networking site, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the targeted killing of Maulana Adil was reprehensible.
The Prime Minister has said that his government knows and I have repeatedly stated on TV that India is trying to assassinate clerics belonging to the Sunni and Shia sects.
The Prime Minister further said in his message that India was trying to assassinate Sunni and Shia clerics and many such attempts had been foiled in the last few months.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa strongly condemned the assassination of renowned religious scholar Maulana Adil Khan in Karachi, a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
The military’s media wing said that General Qamar termed the incident an attempt to foment unrest by Pakistan’s enemies. He directed all-out support to civil administration to bring the criminals to justice.
