Cricket committee chief Iqbal Qasim resigns

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) cricket committee chief Iqbal Qasim has resigned from his post.

According to sources, Iqbal Qasim had reservations about the new domestic structure and has tendered his resignation to the PCB chairman.

Iqbal Qasim has played 50 Tests and 15 ODIs for Pakistan and was appointed by the PCB on 31st January.

In January 2020, along with Iqbal Qasim, former fast bowler Umar Gul and former Test cricketer Ali Naqvi were added to the members.

The committee is responsible for preparing proposals on cricket matters and handing them over to the PCB chairman. The Pakistan Cricket Board had formed a cricket committee headed by Mohsin Hassan Khan in 2018 but separated from Mohsin Hassan Khan’s committee in 2019.

After Mohsin Hassan Khan, Wasim Khan, the chief executive of the PCB, became the chairman of the committee. Wasim Khan also left the committee in December 2019, after which it was decided to form an independent committee with fewer members. It is the responsibility of the said committee to prepare suggestions on cricket matters and send them to the Chairman PCB.

The committee makes recommendations to PCB chairman Ehsan Mani on issues related to cricket, including the performance of national cricket teams, domestic cricket structure, high-performance centers, and playing conditions.
