ISLAMABAD: The Law Ministry has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan should raise the matter of Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK) in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) before presenting it in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The ministry suggested that the prime minister should raise the matter of IOK at UNGA first so that it can be referred to the ICJ through proper channel.
According to the ministry, there is no agreement present between Pakistan and India regarding taking the IOK issue to ICJ.
The suggestion of the IOK issue came after the federal government asked the law ministry to brief over the criteria of moving ICJ over the Kashmir conflict.
Earlier, it was decided by the government of Pakistan that it would take Kashmir case to the ICJ, adding that the decision was taken after considering all legal aspects.
On the other hand, Kashmir enters its 40th consecutive day due to imposed curfew, restrictions and communication blackout imposed by the Indian government.
Educational institutions, shops, markets, and business establishments have been in lockdown since 5th August while public transport is off the roads across the occupied valley.
