ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has conducted the hearing of a case related to the restoration of Karachi Circular Railways (KCR).
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed conducted the hearing in which he ordered the city commissioner to vacate the occupied land in one week.
He also ordered to demolish all the buildings, housing societies and petrol pumps illegally constructed on railways land.
He remarked that the Sindh government had taken the responsibility to rescue circular railways land in Karachi.
CJP Gulzar Ahmed indicated that the Supreme Court might send a contempt of court notice to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other officials of the provincial government if they fail to comply with a 2019 order of apex court regarding the city’s circular railway system.
The CJP issued the remarks while hearing a case related to the restoration of the city’s circular railway system. Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, Karachi commissioner and railways secretary and Sindh advocate general were present in today’s hearing.
At the start of the hearing, advocate general Sindh read out a 2019 order the Supreme Court had issued on 5th September last year. The top judge had directed to evacuate the occupied land in one week.
Moreover, on the other, the Islamabad High Court granted bail to the 23 activists held in detention after they protested against the arrest of Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) leader Manzoor Pashteen.
Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the bail please of 23 PTM supporters who were arrested for staging a protest in Islamabad against PTM leader Manzoor Pashteen’s arrest.
The protesters were charged under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 353 (assault on public servant), 147 (rioting), 149 (being member of unlawful assembly), 505-A (defaming Army), 505-B (public mischief), 124-A (sedition), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 186 (obstructing public servant) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
