NEW YORK: Gold prices staged a recovery on Monday following a sharp sell-off in the previous trading session, with the precious metal climbing back above the $3,900-per-ounce mark as investors returned to the market after a steep decline.
Spot gold rose 0.7% to $3,900 per ounce by 0440 GMT on Monday, recovering some of its losses after touching a one-year low in the previous session.
US gold futures also moved higher, with contracts for December delivery gaining 0.3% to reach $3,909 per ounce.
The recovery followed a significant 3.5% decline on Friday, which pushed gold prices to their lowest level since October 2025. During the sell-off, bullion also fell below the closely watched $4,000-per-ounce threshold, raising concerns among investors about further losses.
Meanwhile, other precious metals recorded mixed movements in international markets.
Spot silver advanced 1.8% to $49.97 per ounce, while platinum edged up 0.1% to $1,432.63 per ounce.
In contrast, palladium remained broadly stable at $976.31 per ounce.
The latest rebound comes after a period of considerable volatility in the precious metals market, with investors closely monitoring price movements following gold’s sharp decline.
