ISLAMABAD: Obtaining a driving licence in the federal capital is set to become easier and more affordable following major reforms introduced by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP). Under the new policy, the additional urgent fee has been abolished, allowing citizens to obtain licences at the regular fee.
Urgent Fee Abolished, Priority Service Introduced
Under the revised policy, applicants will no longer have to pay an extra fee to receive their driving licences on an urgent basis. All applicants will be offered priority processing at the standard fee, according to the new arrangements.
Driving Licences to Be Ready in Three Days
Police officials said the processing time for driving licences has been reduced from two weeks to just three days. Applicants can also provide their home address on the application form and have their licences delivered directly to their homes.
Only One Visit to the ITP Office Required
The application process has also been simplified to save citizens time. Applicants will need to visit an Islamabad Traffic Police office only once, during which their medical examination, physical test and photograph will be completed.
Renewals and Duplicate Licences Within One Hour
The ITP has also streamlined the process for licence renewals and duplicate licences. Citizens visiting ITP offices or police facilitation centres can obtain these services within one hour after paying the prescribed fee. No urgent fee will be charged for these services.
Initiative Aims to Improve Public Services
The reforms have been introduced on the special directives of Islamabad Inspector General of Police Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry. The initiative aims to reduce waiting times, eliminate bureaucratic hurdles and provide residents of the federal capital with modern, convenient services.
