TOKYO: India defeated Pakistan 4-3 in a thrilling men’s hockey semi-final at the 2026 Asian Games, securing their place in the final after a fiercely contested encounter between the traditional rivals.
Harmanpreet Singh scored twice for India, while Sukhjeet Singh and Abhishek added one goal each. With the victory, India also extended their unbeaten run against Pakistan to 21 consecutive matches.
India dominated the first half and appeared to be in complete control, taking a commanding 3-0 lead into the interval. However, Pakistan staged a remarkable comeback in the second half and completely changed the momentum of the match.
Pakistan’s Abu Mahmood, Hannan Shahid and Waheed Rana found the net to bring the score level at 3-3, setting up a dramatic finish. With both sides pushing for the decisive goal, the match appeared to be heading towards a penalty shootout.
However, India’s Abhishek had other plans. His shot took a deflection before finding the back of the net, restoring India’s lead and sending the Indian fans into celebration.
India held on to their 4-3 advantage until the final whistle to book their place in the Asian Games hockey final.
Pakistan were left disappointed after coming back from three goals down to level the contest, only to concede the decisive goal late in the match. India will now compete for the gold medal in the Asian Games final.
