Karachi: The judicial commission investigating the murder of young businessman Mir Raza has issued a detailed written order on today’s proceedings, expressing serious concern over the conduct of Sindh Advocate General Javed Dero during the hearing and describing his intervention as an obstruction to the proceedings.

Key Points of the Written Order

Commission Expresses Concern Over Advocate General’s Intervention

According to the written order, Sindh Advocate General Javed Dero intervened during the testimony of Dr. Samia Syed. The commission expressed concern that the province’s chief law officer raised an objection at a time when the police surgeon was making important disclosures regarding the role of senior police officers in connection with the post-mortem examination.

Objection to Questions by the Victim’s Family

The order states that it was regrettable for the Advocate General to object to questions put by the lawyer representing the victim’s family. The commission made it clear that determining whether a particular question is relevant to the proceedings falls entirely within the commission’s jurisdiction.

Faryal Talpur’s Recommendation and Government’s Position

The commission also referred to a recommendation by Faryal Talpur, a member of the Home Department committee, who had urged the Sindh Chief Minister to establish a judicial commission for a transparent and impartial investigation into the case.

The order further noted that Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar and the Sindh Chief Minister had also expressed their commitment to ensuring justice for the victim’s family and bringing all relevant facts of the case to light.

Sindh Home Minister Summoned

The commission has summoned Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar to appear in person at 9:00 a.m. on September 10. He has been asked to clarify his position on whether the victim’s family can be prevented from putting questions before the commission through their counsel.

According to the commission, today’s proceedings had to be halted following an alleged attempt by the Advocate General to obstruct the questions being raised on behalf of the victim’s family.

The next hearing has been scheduled for September 10 at 9:00 a.m. The witnesses to be summoned for subsequent proceedings will be notified at a later stage.
