LAHORE: The case of Lahore Township police custody deaths have taken a new turn as police received the forensic report in the high-profile case.
Police sources have told some media outlets that the Township police forensic report suggests that both women died due to consumption of multiple drugs.
The report found traces of nine different drugs. It also confirmed intoxication with two different types of morphine, including Daisy Palm and Dexa. Police claimed that liver damage due to prolonged drug use led to cardiopulmonary arrest.
Forensic report cites drug overdose as cause
Police sources said the women were heavily intoxicated at the time of death. Their livers were damaged due to excessive drug intake. So both women died due to cardiopulmonary arrest. However, final chemical examination reports are still awaited.
Deaths raise procedural questions
The case has already raised serious questions. Medical board sources had earlier claimed injection marks on the arm and wrist of one woman. And there was a gap of 3.5 hours between their arrival at the station and death.
Police sources admitted that the women were not searched, lady officers were absent, and there was no CCTV camera in the investigation wing.
The HRCP has also demanded a judicial tribunal headed by a Lahore High Court judge to probe the incident.

The human rights body flagged discrepancies in age, time of death, and post-mortem findings. But police maintain that the Lahore women drug overdose case is now clear after the forensic findings. The families will be informed after the final reports.
