KARACHI: Counsel for slain businessman Mir Raza Ali, Jibran Nasir, has expressed serious reservations over the inclusion of a police officer in the investigation team probing the high-profile murder case.
Speaking to the media, Jibran Nasir said that the family has strong reservations over the inclusion of Ghulam Nabi Afridi in the investigation team and has formally written a letter to DIG Amir Farooqi in this regard.
“Ghulam Nabi Afridi’s service book is available, from which his performance can be assessed. Amir Farooqi has the authority to form a team, but reservations arise if such a member is included,” he said, adding that it is hoped that DIG Farooqi will not create any controversy in this sensitive case.
He clarified that the family had explicitly named three officers they trust – Sirajuddin Lashari, Muhammad Ali and DSP Hanif Khan – and confirmed that these three officers are part of the investigation team. “The police team is expected to establish law enforcement,” he noted.
‘We Want Living Culprits, Not Bodies, In The Dock’
Jibran Nasir further said the family’s priority is a transparent and motive-based investigation.
“We want a transparent investigation into the murder, with the people involved arrested alive. It is most important to get to the real character and motive behind the murder. We do not want the bodies but the living characters involved in the murder in the dock of the law. We hope that Amir Farooqi will bring the case to its logical conclusion,” the lawyer said.
Case Background
The statement comes as the probe committee has recently been expanded to nine members.
The committee has retrieved Mir Raza’s mobile phone and smartwatch from the NCIA to be sent to the Lahore Forensic Lab for examination after the family expressed reservations over NCIA forensics.
The 25-year-old businessman’s body was found on July 29. Police initially termed it a suicide, but a second postmortem conducted after court-ordered exhumation confirmed homicide, revealing a bullet wound entering from the waist and exiting the chest, along with broken ribs, head injuries and chemical burns on the face.
