KARACHI: Archaeological remains have been discovered during the ongoing restoration work of Lee Market in the Old City area of Karachi.
In this regard, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that two ancient statues have been recovered during the restoration work. He said the recovered items have been preserved and will be examined by archaeologists.
The Mayor said experts will determine the age and historical significance of the statues through scientific examination. He added that complete documentation and record of the recovered items will be compiled to preserve the historical heritage.
He further said that KMC is taking all possible steps to preserve the historical heritage of the city and that further excavation work is being carried out carefully following the discovery of historical nature.
He also mentioned a new archaeological campaign in Sindh in collaboration with Pakistan and France.
