KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange opened Tuesday on a sharply negative note, extending the losses from the previous session as selling pressure deepened across the board. The KSE-100 Index slipped further into the red, reflecting investor unease after Monday’s decline when the market had already shed over one percent.
Trading sentiment remained fragile, with declines outpacing advances and volumes reflecting cautious repositioning. Broader indices including the All-Share, KSE-30, KMI-30, and Banking Index all mirrored the downward trajectory, underscoring the breadth of the rout.
Market watchers linked the continued slide to international developments, particularly renewed skirmishes in the Gulf and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which have disrupted energy flows and heightened risk aversion. The external shocks have compounded domestic economic concerns, leaving investors reluctant to take fresh positions.
Analysts noted that the optimism seen in earlier sessions, when buying briefly returned to PSX, has quickly evaporated. With geopolitical tensions clouding the outlook and inflationary pressures persisting at home, the market remains vulnerable to further volatility.
