ISLAMABAD: A high-level Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad late last night amid reports that a US team is also set to fly for Pakistan, prompting authorities to implement strict security and traffic arrangements across the federal capital.

According to the Islamabad Traffic Police, a comprehensive traffic diversion plan has been enforced in view of the delegation’s visit and expected diplomatic engagements.

Under the plan, the Red Zone and its adjoining areas have been completely sealed, while key arteries — including the Islamabad Expressway from Korral to Zero Point — have been closed for general traffic. Authorities have warned that the Srinagar Highway may also face intermittent closures depending on security requirements.

The entry of heavy vehicles into the city has been entirely banned, and transporters have been advised to avoid routes leading to Islamabad during this period.

Residents of sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 have been instructed to use alternative routes, including Margalla Road and 9th Avenue, while traffic from Faisal Avenue is being diverted towards 9th Avenue.

For intercity transport, heavy traffic traveling between Peshawar and Lahore has been rerouted via the motorway network, including Taxila, Chakri Interchange, Chak Beli Road, and Rawat GT Road.

The traffic plan has been implemented as part of heightened security measures amid ongoing diplomatic activity, with Islamabad once again taking centre stage in regional negotiations involving Iran and other stakeholders.

Citizens have been urged to cooperate with authorities and follow designated alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.
