The Pakistan Cricket Board has initiated disciplinary proceedings against all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz after he returned a positive dope test.

Details emerging on Wednesday indicate that the International Cricket Council formally communicated the test results to the PCB, prompting the board to begin its internal process. The sample in question was collected during the T20 World Cup held earlier this year.

A PCB spokesperson confirmed the development while speaking to ESPNcricinfo, stating: “The ICC has informed the PCB about this matter, and PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today.”

Sources further revealed that Nawaz, 32, was tested during the tournament in Sri Lanka, where Pakistan exited at the Super Eight stage. The left-arm spinner featured in all seven matches, scoring 15 runs and claiming seven wickets during the campaign.

In a related development, English county side Surrey County Cricket Club has terminated its contract with Nawaz following the doping revelation.

The cricketer had recently secured a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the PCB to participate in the T20 Blast, scheduled from May 26 to July 18, and was expected to be announced as part of Surrey’s squad this week.

Nawaz has been a regular in Pakistan’s T20 setup, representing the national side in 98 T20 Internationals.
