ISLAMABAD: A special traffic management plan has been put into effect in the capital on Thursday ahead of the arrival of foreign delegations attending ceasefire talks between the United States and Iran, city traffic police said.

Under the directive, vehicles approaching Rawalpindi from the GT Road (Peshawar) have been instructed to divert onto the Taxila Motorway via Chakri Chak Belly Road and Rawat. Motorists travelling from Lahore towards Peshawar have been advised to follow the Rawat–Chak Belly Road–Taxila Motorway corridor, the traffic police added.

Commuters moving from Margalla Road into Rawpindi have been directed to use Ninth Avenue. Likewise, traffic from Rawalpindi bound for Islamabad via Murree Road has been rerouted to Ninth Avenue, authorities said.

Traffic officials said vehicles travelling from Faisal Avenue towards Zero Point will be diverted onto Ninth Avenue. Meanwhile, the expressway between Zero Point and Korala Chowk will remain closed in both directions until further notice.

As part of security arrangements, all heavy vehicles have been barred from entering Islamabad for today and tomorrow, the traffic police announced.

Separately, the Islamabad district administration declared a two-day local holiday. All schools and government offices in the city will remain closed on Thursday, April 9, and Friday, April 10; however, institutions providing essential services will continue to operate, the administration said.
