Gwadar has formally entered Pakistan’s export landscape, with regular exports of processed donkey meat to China now underway from the port city.

Officials say the move is part of efforts to diversify the country’s livestock exports.

According to local sources, around 50 containers of processed donkey meat are being exported from Gwadar to China each month, where demand exists due to its use in traditional medicine and specialised food industries.

The project is being carried out under a regulated export framework to ensure full compliance with international health and safety standards.

Officials say the initiative will create new revenue streams, generate employment opportunities for local communities in Balochistan, and further strengthen trade ties between Pakistan and China.

Economic activity is expected across multiple sectors involved in the export chain, including farming, processing, logistics and port services.

By leveraging Gwadar’s deep-sea port and its strategic location along key regional trade routes, Pakistan aims to enhance the competitiveness of its livestock sector and gain access to niche international markets.

Authorities believe the development highlights Gwadar’s growing role as an industrial and transit hub, while also underscoring its emerging importance as a gateway for agricultural exports.

Analysts note that while donkey meat exports cater to a niche market, the move reflects the government’s broader strategy to expand Pakistan’s export base beyond traditional commodities.
