Punjab is set to introduce digital biometric verification for students appearing in the 2026 matriculation and intermediate examinations, in a move aimed at curbing cheating and malpractice while enhancing transparency.
The decision was finalised at a meeting held at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore, chaired by Task Force Committee Chairman Muzammil Mahmood and attended by senior officials from all nine education boards across Punjab.
Under the new system, students’ identities will be digitally verified before they are allowed to enter examination halls.
Reforms will also be introduced for practical examinations, including standardised grading, CCTV monitoring in laboratories, and a digital marking system to minimise errors and prevent corruption. Examination invigilators will be offered higher remuneration to promote integrity and accountability.
Chairman Muzammil Mahmood issued a stern warning that strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to influence results through bribery or undue pressure.
According to officials, the reforms are aimed at restoring public confidence in Punjab’s education system and ensuring a fair and transparent environment for students.
BISE Lahore has confirmed that detailed guidelines will be shared with schools ahead of the 2026 examination season.
