Google has announced that its AI Overviews feature in Search will now be based on the Gemini 3 model.
The company is also introducing an AI chat window within Google Search, allowing users to ask follow-up questions directly.
At present, users need to switch to Google Search’s AI mode to ask follow-up questions, where the AI technology responds to main queries and related sub-questions.
Google has been testing the new update for some time and has now begun rolling it out globally for mobile users.
For a long period, Google made no major changes to its search engine and relied heavily on keyword-based searches, which often produced an overwhelming number of results.
Google now says this approach is no longer necessary, as users can enter longer, more conversational queries to get more accurate results.
Following the latest updates to AI Overviews, users will be able to interact with Google Search in a conversational manner, similar to how they engage with Gemini.
